Living through change

Living through change... Not just through an unforeseen occurrence, but also through the change as in quarters, dimes and nickels. Living on my own has its difficult moments, but I wouldn't have it any other way. Money has always been a fickle friend. There are days when everything is running smoothly according to plan, and some days it's going to be like these next two weeks. I'm not completely devastated. I'm just trying to keep my chin up. Two weeks is a short period of time compared to other things. This has brought a new point of perspective to me which I'm happy to learn and cherish. Now I really have to come up with new ways to create meals and plan my grocery list.

I've been through a few innovative meal ingredients this past month, like making my own breadcrumb from left over bread slices or even substituting it with crushed up matzo. Desperate times call for desperate measures. And substitutions are my new best friend. But now it's on a much higher challenge level. My recipes have to really work off of what I already have around my house. One great thing about all of this is that I'll be able to try new recipes that I wouldn't normally think to and I'll be able to record it all down in my recipe book.

It's easy grocery shopping and paying with paper bills or plastic cards, but when you're only left with paying only in coins, it really forces you to think about what you really need and what you can get. Unfortunately the option for coupons is not at my disposal. The nearest market from my house is a family owned shop. The prices are usually marked up a little higher and there are no such things as sales. It's a little embarrassing to pay over five dollars all in dimes and nickels, but a girl's got to do what a girl's got to do. As long as I can put food on the table, everything will be just fine. I feel like I'm on a TV segment of Chopped and Project Runway combined. Chopped, because of the random ingredients I have to work with. And Project Runway, when Tim Gunn hands the competitors a limited budget for supplies. This will be exciting.

For the next two weeks I'll be jotting down some of my new finds to share with you all. Stay tuned for tonight's meal! It's going to be my first time making this and I'm thrilled to try this new recipe out.
